We hope that through this group travel experience, you’ll get to know our on-site staff, experience our cultural curriculum, and know more about how you can customize our programs to your university needs. Space is limited and by application only.

Participants will:

Experience our Local Life cultural program first-hand
Meet with students (if possible) and local staff
Learn what goes into a successful faculty-led program
Visit housing, internship sites, academic partners
Learn how you can customize our programs to fit your university needs
Attend lectures on one or two academic foci at the site

Site Visit Inclusions:

Full guidance of a CIS Abroad staff member
All hotel accommodations are single rooms
Most meals (there may be a few lunches or a free evening meals on your own)
Excursions
In-country transportation

Japan & South Korea

Join us in Tokyo, Japan, with an optional add-on to explore Seoul, South Korea.

Saturday, November 16 - Arrive in Tokyo (Haneda Airport), walking tour of Shinjuku
Sunday, November 17 - A day of culture and exploration in and around Tokyo (Tsukuji Outer Market, Kyoko Gaien National Garden, teamLab Planets Museum,
Meiji Shrine + Harajuku)
Monday, November 18 - Visit to J.F. Oberlin University - Shinjuku campus, student housing, and CIS Abroad's Internship partner, ending with a food walking tour in Shibuya.
Tuesday, November 19 - Visit Meiji Gakuin University - Yokohama Campus. Visit to include a class observation, meeting with current CIS students, campus tour, lunch with students and staff, tea with Faculty and a tour of student housing.
Wednesday, November 20 - Optional Visit to Shinjuku National Garden, and a visit to Toyo University, including student housing visit. Tokyo farewell dinner.
Thursday, November 21 - Departure day for those not continuing on to Seoul.
- For those joining for Seoul only, plan to arrive into Seoul Gimpo airport.
- For those traveling to Seoul for South Korean extension, after arrival there will be a walking tour around the market area followed by a Korean BBQ welcome dinner
Friday, November 22 - Visit to Sogang University. Visit with students, tour campus, meet with faculty.
Saturday, November 23 - Day of culture and exploration in and around Seoul, including free time to explore. Group farewell dinner.
Sunday, November 24 - Departure Day (Depart from Incheon or Gimpo)

There is a program fee of $500-$700 for group site visits. Participants are responsible for air travel to and from the host country, visa expenses, and some lighter meals. A limited number of travel grants may be available to help defray these costs for advisors whose travel budgets are limited. You may also apply for a Cooperating Partner Alliance (CPA) Site Visit Grant if this is cost prohibitive to your institution. On the other hand, if your institution prefers to pay for all costs associated with the program, just let us know.

Unfortunately, we don’t allow guests to accompany participants on our professional development and site visit programs. This is in part due to liability concerns and in part due to the dynamics of the programs themselves. We provide a very packed itinerary for the days we are on-site in order to provide you with the most educational, professional, and culturally enriching experience as possible. We are on the go much of the time (with some limited breaks, of course, for you to rest, recoup, and explore on your own!). We suggest that any guest come following the conclusion of the program.

I knew I wanted to study abroad, particularly in Japan, because it was on my bucket list. Thanks to CIS, I was able to go to Tokyo! Even now, it is surreal to me that I got to go! I can't put it into words how much fun I had in Tokyo. I enjoyed every second of my time there, from walking around the bustling streets of Shibuya and Shinjuku to going to class, eating delicious Japanese cuisine, and even going to the convenience store. Even the simplest things were incredibly fun to me. I was initially anxious about being homesick, my Japanese skills and traveling alone, but I'm happy to say that I very quickly made lovely, lifelong friends and was met with nothing but kindness from the locals. I learned not to let my worries get in the way of an opportunity of a lifetime. Thank you, CIS Abroad. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity I had to go to Tokyo.
