For almost 20 years, CIS Abroad’s Consulting Services team has assisted U.S. study abroad offices by introducing tools and resources that help get teams rejuvenated and excited again!

Join AVP of Consulting Services, Ginny Garzon, and explore case studies from two US Study Abroad Offices. Study Abroad leaders Miranda Roberts (Univ. of Michigan) and Miguel Ayllon (Univ. of Missouri) will share their own experiences working with CIS Abroad’s Consulting Services team on projects such as Team Building, Office Efficiencies, and Strategic Planning, and explain the impact their experiences have had on rejuvenating their teams.

This LGBTQ+ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer/Questioning, etc.) Allyship Training will give international educators the tools needed to support and advocate for LGBTQ+ students on campus.

The presentation will cover: supportive terminology, international LGBTQ+ rights, key questions for students to ask themselves and for us to ask our host institutions, and the top 10 dos and don’ts for advising.

At the end, our LGBTQ+ Allyship Trained sign will be available for download. Put it up in your office to show you are informed, supportive, and open to conversations.

As we’ve observed from living through the past year: information changes weekly if not daily, countries interpret data differently and impose varying restrictions (which also change often), vaccines are available to some but not all around the world, participants and their families have varying comfort levels around what is now considered safe, and throughout the pandemic CIS Abroad and the University of Massachusetts Amherst have hosted students abroad. Diversity & Inclusion Summer Webinar Series

In the spirit of our long-running LGBTQ+ Ally Training, CIS Abroad invites partner institutions to join us for sessions dedicated to building capacity for serving even more student populations that are underrepresented in education abroad.

This session will examine the often overlapping needs and concerns facing First-Generation, High Financial Need, and First Abroad students in higher education and how those play into the process of preparing for and participating in education abroad.

With these common concerns in mind, we will share ideas on how international education advisors can collaborate with other staff across campus to reach their target student audiences with information specifically addressed to their needs, and discuss the nuanced approaches to advising First-Gen students using a strengths-based methodology.

This session will discuss ways to foster inclusion for Students of Color in the stages of the international education journey beyond the application phase. We will talk about strategies for creating an advising safe space, helping students understand how their racial and ethnic identities may play into their experience abroad prior to departure, and sharing relevant information about community support and resources available as they begin their experience on site.
