You can also list it on your resume, refer to it in your cover letters, and use it as a talking point during interviews to introduce the skills you have developed.

The Working Across Cultures internship and micro-credential course, offered through CIS Abroad, will guide you to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and cross-cultural communication skills while engaging in professional work experiences abroad – adding global awareness to your professional experience. This micro-credential documents that you’ve developed certain key competencies that the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has designated as being essential for new college grads. Specifically, it indicates to potential employers that you have demonstrated skills in the areas of:

  • Global Equity & Inclusion: Demonstrate the awareness, attitude, knowledge, and skills required to equitably engage and include people from different local and global cultures. Practice openness, inclusiveness, and ability to interact respectfully with diverse groups.
  • Cross-Cultural Communication: Articulating thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively verbally and in writing taking into account cultural differences.
  • Career & Self Development: Proactively develop oneself and one’s career through continual personal and professional learning, awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses, navigation of career opportunities, and networking to build relationships within and without one’s organization, Develop plans and goals for one’s future career.
  • Professionalism: Knowing work environments differ greatly, understand and demonstrate effective work habits, and act in the interest of the larger community and workplace.

Requirements to earn the Working Across Cultures micro-credential

Of course, there are specific requirements that must be met in order to earn this micro-credential, including:

  1. Successfully completing each module of the Working Across Cultures Micro-Credential online curriculum during the allotted time, including recording and saving your reflection documents as instructed and actively engaging with and posting responses to the Challenges.
  2. Completing all of your internship work hours and receiving a positive final evaluation from your internship supervisor.
  3. Submitting your 30 second elevator pitch.
  4. Submitting a quality final LinkedIn profile with a final post about the skills you developed during your internship.
  5. Submitting a video, blog, or similar creative deliverable which presents the outcomes/results of your internship experience.

Upon completion, students will receive the Working Across Cultures Micro-Credential certification along with the Working Across Cultures Micro-Credential Badge to post on social media. Students will also be equipped to clearly and concisely explain their certification in any situation, highlighting skills acquired, be it a conversation, or interview for graduate school or employment.
