About London

A hotspot for art, fashion, film, history, music, theater, and nightlife, London is an experience in itself. Explore the many diverse markets across the city, including the punk-rock-inspired Camden market and colorful Portobello Road. Visit the Globe Theatre to see some of Shakespeare’s most famous works performed live. Many of London’s museums are free and house some of the most renowned works of art and artifacts. Cruise down the River Thames or find a rooftop with a sweeping view of the spectacular city below. As the saying goes, coined by famous author Samuel Johnson, “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.”

The London Underground makes navigating this big city easy. Also called "the Tube," it's the oldest underground railway in the world. Combined with London’s train and bus systems, the entire city is well connected and accessible. Walking is also a great way to see the sights. You'll glimpse contrasts between beautiful Victorian architecture situated next to some of the most modern buildings in the world. Stroll to one of the nearby well-preserved parks to enjoy green surroundings in the midst of a bustling city.

Feel like taking a weekend trip to the Beatles’ hometown of Liverpool? Or checking out a Manchester United football match? Or taking a quick jaunt to a traditional seaside town? Thanks to England’s rail system, the whole country is easily accessible by train. And if you want to travel farther afield, London's international rail and air links make European excursions both easy and affordable!

Studying abroad in London has been an experience I will never forget. Living in a new country is something I think everyone should experience in their life. I've made so many new life long friendships I never would have unless I came here. I've also grown so much as a person and become more independent. The CIS team has been so supportive during the whole process. From applying to my program to arriving on campus in London. My site directors have been so helpful and supportive answering any questions I have. The social program activities were amazing and helped me see a different side of London than I would have without it. I will never forget this experience; it really has changed me for the better.

I’ve always wanted to study abroad, even though I was initially very nervous since I had never been over seas before. But even my imagination could never have dreamed of the amazing things I got to see and experience while abroad. I didn’t get to just see all these new places but studying abroad allowed me to have the time to fully submerge myself into so many different cultures. I’ll never forget my time over here and I will forever be grateful I was able to experience studying abroad!

Studying abroad has been a truly transformational experience for me; I've felt more myself here than I have in a long time. It gave me confidence in myself and my abilities, and I formed lifelong friendships with some of the coolest people around the world. I'll never forget this experience!

Studying abroad in London changed the way I view other cultures. It taught me so much about how to be independent and showed me that there is an entire world to travel with many opportunities to do it! With CIS Abroad, I was able to transition easily into life on the other side of the world via a wonderful orientation.

Studying abroad gave me a different perspective. I felt like all I cared about before I went was problems with me, my family, and my friends. Now, after being abroad, I realize there are so many bigger things to focus on. It also gave me the desire to travel more.

I was thrilled and grateful to learn that I was selected as a recipient of the Rainbow Scholarship and am so excited to show the world my experience in London with CIS Abroad. As a first generation Mexican-American and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I was thankful to hear I would receive a scholarship from CIS Abroad to pursue my academic and professional ventures. I have dreamed of studying abroad since a young age and to make this life-changing experience a reality impacted me profoundly.

One of my favorite excursions was the hike to Leigh on Sea. The area was absolutely beautiful and provided such a contrast to the busy city of London.

After going on the Tate Modern and West End excursions with CIS Abroad, I developed a passion for the different forms of art expression. My favorite part by far was visiting different galleries, street art displays and performances, and plays.

From the beginning stages of the application process to being guided on an excursion to Scotland, the CIS Abroad team was supportive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Phone calls with my program enrollment coordinator always answered my questions!

CIS Abroad was amazing in the application process, and went above and beyond while I was overseas. There were excursions included in the tuition, and my program cohort became like a family.

I really liked the anonymity of being black in London. There weren't really high expectations like I've experienced in the U.S. I still had people go up to me and be like "I love your hair" but there weren't as many expectations for how I wear my hair.
